May I share the information about this event on my blog / site / mailing list ?
Will you consider late submissions?
The deadline for submitting proposals has already passed and we have received a large number of fascinating abstracts. However we may still consider some late submissions. Proposals for presentations relating to Southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, etc.) and/or in alternative formats (interactive workshop, workshop for children, presentation engaging with Whitworth’s collection, etc.) are particularly welcome. We are not deadline-fascists but at one point soon we will need to finalise the programme so please try to send your proposal rather today than tomorrow.
Will you offer financial support to people coming from abroad?
We have now received a grant from The Sociological Review Foundation to support participation of participants from abroad for whom paying for transport or accommodation would be a challenge. Please tell us if you require such support. In case we will not be able to offer bursaries to cover accommodation to all those in need of support, we will offer some number of home-stay arrangements for those willing to make use of such opportunity.
My research is very much about “everyday revolutions” but less so about Southern or Eastern Europe – shall I send in a proposal?
Please do. Comparative papers/presentations/workshops which refer to Southern and/or Eastern Europe in a broader context are most welcome. We may also consider putting together a comparative panel with presentations about case studies within and outside our region of interest.
What is the best way to get to Manchester from abroad?
Manchester Airport (MAN) is just 15 minutes train ride from the city centre and is served by a number of cheap airlines. Liverpool Airport (LPL) is not much further away (it’s about 50 minutes bus ride from the terminal to Manchester city centre) so it is also a good place to fly to.
Can I come with children?
Please do let us know when sending in your proposal that you would like to come with children. We aim to make this event parent/child friendly and to have activities aimed specifically at children.
Can I participate without presenting a paper?
Yes, you can. If you would like to participate without presenting please register here.
Is it true that the Whitworth Art Gallery is an amazing space?
Yes, it is. You can see their website here.
Is Manchester a place to visit?
According to Lonley Planet, Manchester is “UK’s cultural boomtown” and one of Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2016. In 2017 it should be even better.
Will it rain in Manchester?
We cannot guarantee anything, but most probably it will. Don’t worry though – there are many things to do in Manchester when it rains.
